Data Format Translation Service

This is a web client that talks to the Data Translation Web Service (DTWS) developed by Space Physics Data Facility (SPDF).

File(s) to be Translated Source Format Dest Format






Add a File to be Translated

1. Enter a source file:
Select a local file by pressing the Browse (or Choose File) key  

Or, enter a network/remote file (e.g., ftp://myhost.domain.com/tests/test.cdf)


2. Select the data formats:
For the source file and its destination (translated) file:      
Source File : 
Destination File : 

3. Press
Upload and add the file to the Translation File List.

Note: Up to 10 files can be added to the list.

Mapping File (Optional)
Enter the designated Mapping file for the applicable data format translation:

Select a local, corresponding mapping file by pressing the Browse (or Choose File) key  
Press to upload the file.
Browse the default Data Format Translation Mapping:

Press to view the default mapping file.
You can use the Browser to save the file and edit it for your own version. Make sure to preserve its original format.
EMAIL (Optional)
Enter e-Mail address if you want to be notified when the data translation completes.
(e.g., myname@mydomain.com):


4. Initiate Data Translation
Press to start a data translation request.

Reset the Page
Press to clear the Translation File List, delete the uploaded file(s) and reload the page.
Add File
Select and add a local file to the Translation File List.
Or, enter a HTTP/FTP-based network file to the Translation File List.
In order for the translation Web Service to work properly, make sure that each source file has a proper extension in its file name:
Remove File(s)
Remove the checked file(s) from the Translation File List.
Add the (local) Mapping File
Select the optional, local mapping file to replace the default file to be used for the format translation.
The mapping file will be applied to all applicable files for a translation request.
A mapping file can be used for FITS-CDF, CDF-FITS, netCDF-CDF, CDF-netCDF, HDF5-CDF and HDF4-CDF data translation.
Remove the (local) Mapping File
Remove the checked file(s) from the User Specified Mapping File List.
